A standard mid rail is 76.2 mm wide. If the total panel height is over 1800 mm, a mid rail is normally fitted for rigidity. If the panel height is over 1800 mm and you do not specify the mid rail location, we will add a mid rail in the centre of panel automatically. If the panel height is over 2200 mm and you do not specify the mid rail location, then the two mid rails will be equally spaced in the panel automatically. We can supply panels without mid rails, or with mid rails in specified positions (for aesthetic purposes this often happens), but you should be aware that the absence of mid rails or their re-positioning may invalidate the warranty. This will be dealt with on a case by case basis and the warranty can only be guaranteed where we have confirmed this in writing.

Shutters are made from several major and minor parts, these are the major components

Stile
This is the vertical solid part of the panel to which louvres are anchored on their ends.

Rails
These are the horizontal sections fixed at either end to the
stiles, together forming the frame into which the louvres or panels fit. Every panel has a top and bottom rail, larger panels will have a mid rail or even more than one midriff, if necessary
Usually the top & bottom rails will be larger than 80 mm. However, the factory will decide the size, unless otherwise specified in the special instruction section in the order section. The top and bottom rail will be the same size if there is a mid rail. If you need different size rails, please specify when ordering. We will try to accommodate

Tilt/Control Rod
This is a vertical wooden bar located on the front of the panels to open and close the louvres, sometimes offset to accommodate folding units.

Hidden Tilt Rod
The hidden tilt rod is located down the side of the panel between the louvres and the side stile. To add to its concealment it is thin, so for reasons of strength, it is made of aluminium unlike the normal tilt rod which is made of wood finished as the rest of the panel.
The hidden tilt rod is used for aesthetic purposes when you want to avoid having a central rod. The hidden tilt rod is available in all our shutters, with 64 mm, 89m and 114 mm louvres widths.
